What to Look for in a Good Martial Art School - Part 2 - Blue Card Registration

Second in a series to help you determine which martial art school is right for you or your child.

Today's blog post provides another question to ask when you meet the instructor.

Please contact me at arc.tkd@outlook.com if you have any questions or would like to be kept up to date on ITF SEQ activities and events.

Does the instructor have a Queensland Government Blue Card registration?

This question will be important if the instructor is teaching children. The Queensland Government Blue Card registration is a system for monitoring people working with children in Queensland.

Registered holders of the Queensland Government Blue Card are issued with a credit card sized identification card, which will have their name, registration number, expiry date and signature information. As required by Queensland Government legislation, instructors must carry this card with them when teaching children and present it when requested.

All instructors at the International Taekwon-Do Federation South East Queensland (ITF SEQ) are registered Blue Card holders with their registration renewed every three years as required by the Queensland Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.

In addition to Blue Card registration, ITF SEQ has a Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy that is registered with the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.

More information on the Queensland Government Blue Card Registration can be found here.

There maybe similar systems in other states. I'm aware of the NSW Working with Children Check. More information on the NSW system can be found here and I'm certain a Google search will reveal systems in other jurisdictions.

Part 3 of this blog series is linked below and provides further questions to ask the instructor to ensure you're dealing with a professional and well organised martial art school.

All the best in finding the right school and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
